Who is the real sick one here?

Is it just Diddy? Or is society to blame as well?

Who is the real sick one here? Is it just Diddy or is it society on a whole? In this essay I will give a unique psycho-analysis of society using the case and trial of Sean Combs referred to hereafter as “Diddy”. What does this case suggest about society? I purport that it highlights the insidious and sadistic nature of a sick society that absolves itself by creating scapegoats i.e the repellent, unequivocal poster child for deviance. I postulate that society as a whole is just as sick as Diddy or even worse because only a sick society treats their sick as criminals and ostracizes them as social pariahs instead of addressing the sickness itself. Only a sick society finds pleasure in the pursuit, persecution, punishment, and the imprisonment of the sick. Instead of offering a helping hand or pointing them in the right direction for healing and recovery we find entertainment in the airing out of their unresolved pain. We hang them out to dry in the public in a malicious attempt to embarrass and humiliate them. I propose that this is sick and an inappropriate way of handling those who are obviously in need of correction, redirection, rehabilitation, and redemption. To add insult to injury, we shame the sick and have the audacity to call it justice. This is a reflection of a bigger issue that must be addressed.

Society at large and on a whole needs to be examined and interrogated to ascertain whether or not we are the prima facie of sickness or just the by-product. Is society producing and enabling certain sicknesses that some individuals are more prone to catch? Or is sickness restricted to the individual as the primary cause? If it is society that is engineering sickness and responsible for the fostering and facilitation of such sicknesses and its expressions then who punishes society for this grave affliction unto its constituents? If the issue is of the individual then how is it possible that such depravity is ignored and permitted to flourish and infect others without early intervention? A reasonable and advance society must bear some responsibility to ensure proper recourse is available to quarantine and treat the sick before that sickness becomes contagious and adversely affects others. It behooves me to ask: “Who is the real sick one here?”

I had ample opportunities to bear witness to the unpleasant truth that there are uncaring agents in the health care system. How and why they are there is what prompts me to investigate if society is in the business of manufacturing and perpetuating sickness, or actually trying to find solutions to treat and cure ailments. If the latter is the objective then it is not hard to ascertain that what Diddy needs is prayer, compassion and psychotherapy —not shameful persecution, unfair prosecution, and imprisonment. It is obvious to me from a distance that Diddy is sick and has been suffering from a sickness for some time now. Therefore he is first a man who is sick before he became a sick man committing crimes. And perhaps his sickness is the precursor for his criminal behaviour if we are to do a further deduction and psycho-analysis. I am not a Diddy apologist or trying to argue for an evasion of responsibility or accountability on his part. I am not a part of his legal team or here to plea for his defence. I am not a licensed psychotherapist to offer professional insight on mental health, disease, or disorders. But even in my uneducated state I can see that we are faulting him by failing to recognize and acknowledge that there is a deeper problem here. Notwithstanding that the problem may very well be the contributing factor that causes him to perform in ways that are not morally appropriate or in alignment with social standards of expected behaviour. I put forward that this is a disservice to Diddy, the alleged victims, society as a whole, and contrary to justice. All those who are and were aware of his perverse propensity for violence and his distorted sexual prowess and chose to proceed in participating in the shenanigans or turn a blind eye to such deviances should bear some responsibility as well. Diddy did not and could not act alone in his escapades. The excuse that they were afraid to act against him, afraid to say no because of repercussions or reprisals, or simply feeling powerless can be used by some, but cannot and should not be used by everybody who witnessed Diddy’s volatile stunts. I posit that in every bunch of cowards there must be at least one person with an iota of courage needed to correct, to rebuke, to speak up and encourage him to seek help. But it seems like it was just easier to keep quiet and conceal what was occurring because the concessions available and awarded far exceeded the need to sincerely care about Diddy enough to want him to change for the better. The participants failure to act dutifully to their own inner compass of what is right repudiates their victimhood to some degree and actually fuelled the ongoing activity of what is now being claimed to be contravention of the law. Again I ask: “Who is the real sick one here?”

The footage of intimate partner violence caught on video by surveillance cameras in a public hotel that was presented to the world years after its occurrence is a credible piece of evidence that substantiates how sick society is and can be. There was more than one witness to this heinous deed yet someone was able to be bribed and paid off. There was someone who decided to deliberately withhold this vital piece of proof of Diddy’s sickness yet chose to release it only when it was personally convenient for them to do so and for a particular agenda. That person is sick, vindictive, and just as dangerously guilty as Diddy. That person should be charged and go on trial for obstructing justice and for failing to report a crime. The fact that this did not come out sooner illuminates a bigger problem in society. Crime is cost-effective. Some people capitalize from its concealment while others benefit from the exposure. This is not justice. It has been established that most people are disingenuous when it comes to sincerely caring for others, but more discouraging is the realization that the very system that society constructs under the guise of serving and protecting its citizens is unscrupulously being used to execute personal vendettas. This is a travesty that points to society’s culpability in crimes and criminality that they claim to want to reduce and abolish. The justice system is a farce for operating arbitrarily with the intent to capitalize off the exploitation of sickness instead of contributing to the components that are needed to build and sustain a just and healthy society. I regurgitate the prevailing theme of this paper once again: “Who is the real sick one here?”
